A homeowner in East Sacramento remodeling their whole house asked for walls with no texture at all, just clean flat surfaces ready for paint. That is a Level 5 smooth wall finish. Here is what the finish levels mean and how we get there.

Smooth wall is not simply leaving off the texture. Level 4 is the standard finish for most homes. Level 5 adds a skim coat over the whole surface, which is what you want under glossy paint or in rooms with strong side light from big windows. Knowing which level you are getting matters, because the difference shows up after the paint goes on.

We have been finishing drywall in Sacramento and Citrus Heights since 2015. We cover floors, control dust, and check every wall under bright light before we call it done, so your painter starts with a flat surface.
